"We must learn to pursue empathy and understand problems not from our perspective but from the perspective of the people going through them. It's important to understand and respect what matters for these communities and how they want to be portrayed and seen. We need to have that openness and become allies, which is what our organization tries to do every day: to pursue this empathy. Because we are all equal. Teachers Ana Capitão and Lurdes Jóia spoke with us about the importance these initiatives have for their students:

We are an ally to Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities dealing with matters of access to Health and Water and the protection of the right to maintain traditional ways of living in harmony with Nature.

North Dakota is the homeland of the Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Nation, Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Nation, Spirit Lake Nation, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, Crow, and Plains Cree. Azimuth World Foundation respectfully acknowledges that it's based on the ancestral territory of the Tséstho'e (Cheyenne) and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ. All these sovereign peoples were the traditional custodians of this land and have made innumerable contributions to this region.
